Congregation meeting this Sunday

Don’t forget about Pentecost Sunday and our congregation meeting. We will have a hotdog feast and meet to elect our new leadership. We have two people considering serving as council secretary and financial secretary. Please keep them in your prayers. We also have some other agenda items and a “For the Good of the Church” time.  Go to our online calendar and click the congregation meeting event for a more detailed agenda. Also be sure to wear red in honor of Pentecost and the fire of the Spirit that burns in our hearts.

Hosanna Cyberline May 26, 2006

Good afternoon/evening/morning (whatever hour your viewing this edition of the Hosanna Cyberline.

Pastor David and I will be posting information here, both written and audio on an ongoing basis. You'll also see photos here from time to time. The audio feature is really cool. We can record quick messages using our cell phones if we need to post quick or emergency updates! Pastor added one the other day about wearing RED on June 4 (Pentecost Sunday). Give it a try.

The advantage of a "blog" is that anyone can add comments that can be read by anyone else using the site.

Don't forget, there is still an opportunity to capture matching funds for "Sharing Hosanna's Blessings." Last day is THIS TUESDAY, MAY 31 AND EVERY DOLLAR IS BEING MATCHED AT THE 50% LEVEL. When you contribute a buck it becomes a buck fifty.

Thanks again to Pastor Rob Moore for his great Sermon last week. JUST DO IT!!!

Speaking of doing it... This Sunday is the start of Summer Sunday School. There will be two groups this year. The older kids will board Air Hosanna for a flight from Houston to Tel Aviv, Israel. Over consecutive weeks we will journey to places mentioned in connection with Jesus' life and ministry, including Bethlehem, Capernaum, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Jericho, the Sea of Galilee and more. Grab your boarding passes and find your seats. P.S., Adults are welcome to sit in. Just don't grab the first class seats. Your ONE PASS miles won't help.

June 5-9: Vacation Bible School. All aboard the Gospel Express is this year's theme. There's still time to sign up at the table in the Narthex. Cost is $25 for the first child, $10 for each additional child. Call Amber, too, if you can help out.

Former New Orleans Saints cheerleader Louis Edmunds is conducting two 4-week gymnastics camps for kids 4 to 14 at Hosanna. The first session runs from May 30 to June 23, Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM. Registration fee is $35 (includes T-shirt and part of swimming). Cost for the camp itself is $75 per week (if paid on a weekly basis) or $240 for the entire session.

Nita informs me that Mulkey Scholarship Applications are due by May 31st. Don't let this opportunity pass you by.

Next Sunday, June 4 (Pentecost): We would like everyone to wear red in honor the birthday of the Church.

ALSO NEXT SUNDAY: Following 11 AM worship, there is an important congregation meeting to elect new officers and get updated totals for Sharing Hosanna's Blessings and From the Heart. We need a quorum of 40+ to make things official.

Second, S.O.S. (Surviving Over the Summer). Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM) is in serious need of non-perishable food and money donations during the summer months. Stuff the NAM pantry in the Narthex full and place checks in the offering over the next three months.

FINALLY... WE REJOICE WITH OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST AT ST. PAUL LUTHERAN IN LAKE CHARLES AS THEY REDEDICATE THEIR BUILDINGS AND THEMSELVES TO THE SERVICE OF THE LORD, THIS SUNDAY, MAY 28 AT 3 PM. THANKS BE TO GOD!!!

A LITTLE HUMOR:

An Atheist was taking a walk through the woods. “What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!” he said to himself. As he was walking alongside the river he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look. He saw a 7 foot grizzly charging towards him. He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the bear was closing in on him. He looked over his shoulder again, and the bear was even closer. He tripped and fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but saw the bear right on top of him reaching for him with his left paw and raising his right paw to strike him.

At that instant the Atheist cried out: "Oh my God!"...

Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent. As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky: "You deny my existence for all of these years, teach others I don't exist, and even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?"

The atheist looked directly into the light, "It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps could you make the BEAR a Christian?"

"Very well," said the voice. The light went out and time unfroze. Then the bear brought both paws together, bowed his head and spoke: "Lord, bless this food, which I am about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord, Amen."

Hope that one was bearable.
Bye till next time. Dale Bargmann, Hosanna Communications

Hosanna Cyberline for Thursday, May 18

Good evening to the Hosanna Community, from Dale Bargmann

I've been checking our website (www.welcometohosanna.com) statistics and discovered a drop in the number of users on Fridays. I guess everyone would rather party or do other things rather than get the latest info off the Hosanna website. Maybe Thursday would be a better day to brief everyone. I have a number of things to tell you about. So, here we go...

A reminder about the baby shower for Karole Coleman this Saturday, May 20 @ 2 PM. Little Zach would love some new clothes and other goodies, even though he can't say so himself.

This past Wednesday, Bob Dejmal told us that some misinformation was sent out about the Habitat for Humanity Work Day this Saturday. There will be no work day, but a dedication. So, no pounding nails and sawing this weekend.

For those who have been unable to view the "From the Heart" DVD that came in the Pony Express bags, I have uploaded it to the Hosanna website. Click the "From the Heart" picture on the Home Page. Then click the link in the right column. Be patient. It takes a couple minutes to load (17.7 MB). You may need to download the FREE Apple QuickTime Player to your computer first. I have provided links for both Mac and Windows XP. I tested it on both my Mac at home and my PC at the office and it opens fine on both systems. If you still have trouble, stop by my office and I'll set a computer up so you can see it there.

Wednesday, May 24: The regular Wednesday morning Bible study gang will be heading to the Loews Spring 10 Theaters, 20115 Holzwarth Rd. to view the movie version of the Da Vinci Code. Start time is noon. Be there by 11:45 AM to get tickets. Anyone is invited to join us. Many of us are planning to meet around 10 AM at the nearby Denny's for a late breakfast/early lunch.

Pastor David and I will be posting information on this blog on a regular basis. Other Hosanna staff members may join us from time to time.

The advantage to a "blog" is anyone can add comments that can be read by anyone else using the Hosanna site. We can also add photos and other images. Another advantage: Blogs are free! Anyone can sign up for a personal Blog and become a "Blogger." You don't have to mess with setting up email address books, either.

Don't forget, there is still an opportunity to capture matching funds for "Sharing Hosanna's Blessings" by the end of May. I was informed this week that we are now at the 30% matching funds level.

The big event this weekend is, of course, the 30th anniversary celebration Sunday, May 21st. There will be one worship service @ 10:30 AM, preceded by Adult Education/Sunday School. Our own Pastor Rob Moore, assistant to the Bishop, will be preaching. The Fidelis String Quartet, made up of members of the Houston Symphony, will provide special music.

After worship we will party with a good ol' Texas barbecue. Invite neighbors and friends and come dressed in your best rodeo/western garb.

Sunday, May 28: Start of Summer Sunday School. There will be two groups this year. The older kids (and any adults who wish to join in), will board Air Hosanna for a flight from Houston to Tel Aviv, Israel. Over consecutive weeks we will travel to many of the places mentioned in connection with Jesus' life and ministry, including Bethlehem, Capernaum, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Jericho, the Sea of Galilee and more. Grab your boarding passes and find your seats.

Coming in June: All aboard the Gospel Express is the theme for this year's Vacation Bible School, June 5-9. Sign up at the table in the Narthex. Cost is $25 for the first child, $10 for each additional child. Help is needed to teach and assist. Call Amber Walker to volunteer.

Louis Edmunds, a former New Orleans Saints cheerleader, who does the tumbling instruction at Hosanna, will be conducting two 4-week gymnastics camps for kids in June and July. See the calendar for details (dates and cost).

Nickie Brooks informed me that last weekend's big garage sale netted over $2,300. We don't have a final total yet. I'll let you know later. Nickie again expresses her thanks to all those who worked on the sale and donated goods. Unsold donations were picked up by Northwest Assistance Ministries and taken to the Second Chance Resale store.

Sunday, May 28: The Blood Mobile returns to Hosanna. Donate and save a life.

The Denny's CREW breakfast is also this Sunday.

Mulkey Scholarship Applications are due by May 31st.

Two important announcements: June 4 is the next congregational meeting to elect officers and other matters. We need a good showing, 40 + for a quorum. As usual there will be great food so your stomach won't be overheard voicing an objection.

Second, S.O.S. (Surviving Over the Summer): NAM, short for Northwest Assistance Ministries (Hosanna is a founding congregation), is in serious need of non-perishable food and money donations to aid those in need over the summer months. Stuff the NAM pantry in the Narthex full and place checks in the offering over the next three months.

Hosanna Cyberline May 5, 2006

Good afternoon to the Hosanna Community, from Dale Bargmann

I'VE BEEN ASKED TO PASS THIS URGENT PRAYER REQUEST ALONG:

25 month old Grace has neuroblastoma and has been undergoing chemotherapy to shrink the football sized tumor in her abdomen to the current, adult fist sized tumor. The tumor is wrapped around the aorta, vena cava, stomach, kidneys, etc., but, thankfully, has not spread yet to her upper organs and lymph nodes. Grace will be in surgery on Monday, May 8, at 8:00 a.m. at Texas Children's Hospital and the surgery will take around 20 hours(!) since the surgeons must "scrape" the "sticky" tumor off everything it's attached to.Grace, her parents, Scott and Rebecca, and her 5 year old sister, Serena (members of Hosanna) - as well as the surgeons and associates - need to be bathed in our prayers - now, in preparation for the operation; during this tedious, delicate, lengthy procedure; and, afterward, for complete healing. What a spunky little girl! Amazingly, she has the energy and enthusiasm of a typical 2 year old - along with a huge smile! All of our members need to be praying for this family and the prayers need to be ongoing until Grace is safely out of the woods. Grace is not the only cancer victim we are praying for. See page 2 of "This Week at Hosanna" for a complete list.
Lift them up to God, along with Grace.

There will be a baby shower for Karole Coleman Saturday, May 20 @ 2 PM.

The "From the Heart" saddlebags continue to make their way to every member of the congregation. Prayerfully consider your pledges.

Don't forget, there is still an opportunity to capture matching funds for "Sharing Hosanna's Blessings" by the end of May.

The annual Yard Sale is next Saturday, May 13, 8 AM-4 PM. Time to send your former "treasures" off to happy new homes.

May 21st is Celebration Sunday. We will celebrate Hosanna's 30 years of service. There will be one worship service @ 10:30 AM, preceded by Adult Education/Sunday School. Our own Pastor Rob Moore will be preaching. After worship we will party with a good ol' Texas barbecue. Invite neighbors and friends and come dressed in your best rodeo/western garb.

Coming in June: All aboard the Gospel Express is the theme for this year's Vacation Bible School. Help is needed to teach and assist. Call Amber to volunteer.

Summer Sunday School will be divided into two parts this year: one for the very young kids, one for the older kids. I will be facilitating the older kids and we will fly (on Continental of course) to Israel to walk through Jesus life and ministry. Jay Rohla is looking for teaching help and assistants.

SOMETHING NEW ON THE CALENDAR: Louis Edmunds, a former New Orleans Saints cheerleader, who does the tumbling instruction, will be conducting gymnastics camps at Hosanna through June and July. See the calendar for details (dates and cost).

You'll notice a new link on the home page of the Hosanna website, labeled "Church Website 101." This is a mini website I'm putting together for a conference on using technology to aid ministry that Pastor Tart and I will be conducting on May 25 at another church. You're more than welcome to look it over and comment on it. Please keep in mind that it's a work in progress. Some pages are not complete.

A LITTLE HUMOR:

A minister parked his car in a no-parking zone in a large city because he was short of time and couldn't find a space with a meter. Then he put a note under the windshield wiper that read: "I have circled the block 10 times. If I don't park here, I'll miss my appointment. Forgive us our trespasses." When he returned, he found a citation from a police officer along with this note "I've circled this block for 10 years. If I don't give you a ticket, I'll lose my job. Lead us not into temptation."

THEN THERE'S THIS ONE FROM A PASTOR/FRIEND WHO IS VERY NEAR RETIREMENT:

Old ministers never die -- they just go out to pastor.
